2010 Energy Fair Workshops

PVworkshop09.jpg The Energy Fair features over 200 workshops throughout the three-day event. The workshops range from basic, intro level workshops to hands-on education on topics covering everything from energy efficient appliances, renewable energy technology, green building, and sustainable landscaping.

The wide variety of workshops make the Energy Fair the premier energy education event in the nation!

Extended Workshops

The MREA hosts extended workshops during the Energy Fair to take an in-depth look at issues or technologies. Attendees need to pay for admission to the Fair in addition to the Extended Workshop fee. At this time, tickets for the Extended Workshops may be purchased at the MREA Marketplace during the Fair.

Announcing the 2010 Energy Fair Keynotes

Join us June 18th for "Local Food" Friday and Keynote Speaker, Jeremy Solin

Jeremy Solin is an educator, community sustainability organizer, gardener, father, husband, and aspiring forager. He loves to eat fabulous food, hang out with farmers, and get his hands dirty. He is the co-founder of Central Rivers Farmshed, which works on building a local food economy in the Stevens Point area. Farmshed was designed as a distributed, volunteer-and passion-driven network. Farmshed has successfully formed an amazing network of highly productive local food advocates who are working on revolutionizing the food system in Central Wisconsin. Jeremy has worked in the environmental education field for over 10 years in programs in Minnesota, Oregon, and Wisconsin. He currently directs the LEAF Program (Wisconsin's K-12 Forestry Education Program) in the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education at UW-Stevens Point. He has a master of education degree in environmental education and a bachelor of science degree in water resources. Jeremy grew up in northern Wisconsin in a family that earned their living as loggers and farmers. He enjoys most outdoor activities, particularly hunting, fishing, bird watching, hiking, snowshoeing, chasing butterflies, and exploring with his family.

Saturday, June 19 - Bill McKibben

On Saturday, June 19, 2010, join us to hear an inspirational keynote address from noted environmentalist, activist and author, Bill McKibben. Bill is the founder of 350.org, an international climate campaign. He frequently writes about global warming, alternative energy, and the risks associated with human genetic engineering. Beginning in the summer of 2006, he led the organization of the largest demonstrations against global warming in American history.

Bill has written many books including The End of Nature and is a frequent contributor to various magazines including The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, Harper's, Orion Magazine, Mother Jones, The New York Review of Books, Granta, Rolling Stone, and Outside. He is also a board member and contributor to Grist Magazine. Bill has a new book out, Eaarth, that details how we can't continue the unsustainable consumer culture and gives us hope for a more sustainable future.

Amanda has published widely on the environment, energy and technology for more than a decade. She wrote "Muckracker," a long-running syndicated weekly column on Grist.org and Salon.com, and "Code Green," a monthly column on green innovations for Outside magazine, where she was a contributing editor. Her work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Wired, New York, InStyle, Men's Journal and the Washington Post. She is the recipient of the Jane Bagley Lehman Award for excellence in environmental journalism. Amanda recently published her first book, Power Trip, in the tradition of Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation and Thomas L. Friedman's Hot, Flat, and Crowded. Prominent journalist Amanda Little maps out the history and future of America's energy addiction in a wonk-free, big-picture, solutions-oriented adventure story.
